On June 2, 2010, SALT mailed letters to the Minnesota Congressional delegation, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, and State Department Legal Counsel Harold Koh pressing for U.S. intervention to secure the immediate release of American law professor Peter Erlinder following his arrest last Friday in Kigali, Rwanda. We urge the United States government to work with officials in Rwanda to ensure his well-being and to resolve this matter without delay.
Congresswoman Betty McCollum and Congressman Keith Ellison have introduced H.Res. 1426, pressing the Rwandan government for Professor Erlinder's immediate release.
SALT members are urged to contact their Congressional representatives to ask them to sign onto H.Res. 1426.
