Brooklyn Law School in Brooklyn, New York seeks applications and nominations for the position of Dean.

Reporting to the President and appointed by the Board of Trustees, the Dean serves as the chief academic officer of the School. The Dean’s duties include academic leadership, long-range academic planning, curricular matters, admissions, financial aid, career services, technology, the library, and student life. The Dean may recommend the appointment of Associate Deans to the Board of Trustees, and is responsible for directing and supervising the work of the Associate Deans. The Dean is responsible for administration of the instructional budget, for setting salaries of academic personnel, and for presenting to the Board of Trustees the faculty’s and the Dean’s recommendations regarding faculty appointments or status and academic policies.

In addition, the Dean advises the President with respect to long-range and budgetary planning, fiscal management, and the development and construction of capital projects. The Dean attends meetings of the Board of Trustees and assists the President on matters relating to external affairs, including development, alumni relations, and the representation of the School in the outside community.
Brooklyn Law School has grown both in size and complexity over the past two decades, and as a result, in 2010, the Board of Trustees decided to separate the academic and business functions.  In July 2010, Dean Joan Wexler assumed the newly created role of President of Brooklyn Law School to focus on the business of the School including major capital projects, developing more housing for students, fundraising and institutional advancement.

Founded in 1901, Brooklyn Law School is an independent law school with a national focus and reputation.  Located in New York City, at the intersection of downtown Brooklyn, and the charming residential neighborhoods of Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill and Boerum Hill, the location has helped Brooklyn Law School draw a prominent faculty and a national student body.  According to a study using the Leiter Law School Rankings methodology, the faculty ranks 40th in scholarly impact.

Now in its third decade, Brooklyn Law School’s clinical program is recognized as one of the nation’s best, specializing in a range of legal areas, such as bankruptcy, securities arbitration, immigration, criminal law, real estate practice, intellectual property, and mediation.  Once largely a commuter school, Brooklyn Law School guarantees housing in its residences to all entering students, and provides housing to about 550 students in all.
In addition to strong administrative experience, the successful candidate will, at minimum, possess a J.D. degree and will have an outstanding record of teaching, scholarship, and service that supports appointment as a tenured professor.
