For years, SALT has had a Judicial Nominations Committee, which reviews nominations to the federal bench and recommends to the SALT Board that SALT oppose nominees whose records demonstrate hostility to SALT’s principles.
The Board has opposed several nominees to the federal courts of appeals and one nominee to the Supreme Court, Justice Samuel Alito.
The SALT Board also opposed two non-judicial nominations, that of Alberto Gonzales and now Michael B. Musasey to be Attorney General of the United States.
SALT’s statements of opposition appear below:
November 2, 2007 Opposition to the Nomination of Michael B. Mukasey to be Attorney General
January 9, 2006 Opposition to the Judicial Nomination of Samuel Alito to the U.S. Supreme Court
January 20, 2005 Opposition to the Nomination of Alberto Gonzales as Attorney General
2005 Opposition to the Nomination of Charles Pickering to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals
July 13, 2004 Opposition to the Nomination of Claude Allen to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals
