B.A. to J.D. Pipeline Project Launched

SALT thanks The Charles Evans Hughes Memorial Foundation and St. John's University School of Law for generously supporting the launch of  the B.A. to J.D. Pipeline Project with its first program on Friday, November 11, at St. John's University School of Law: Opening Doors: Making Diversity Matter in Law School Admissions. 

Counsel Required at Bail Hearings in Maryland

The Maryland Court of Appeals ruled that counsel is required at a first criminal proceeding, which entitles defendants to counsel at bail hearings.  SALT, in an amicus brief drafted by Professor Ursula Bentele (Brooklyn) and Morrison Foerster, urged Maryland to extend the right of counsel to the first critical stage of a criminal proceeding--bail--in DeWolfe v. Richmond. 

SALT Joins Challenge to Alabama's Notorious HB

SALT continued to challenge Alabama's notorious HB 56, an anti-immigration statute that closes public school education to undocumented children, enlarges state police power, and has a chilling effect on anyone who looks "like an immigrant."
